For over a quarter of a century people have been trekking to Skegness in Lincolnshire for the first weekend in July to attend what is now the country’s biggest exhibition of Meccano models.
Organised by a willing band of volunteers from the NMMG this premier event draws people from many British and foreign clubs.
It runs from the Friday to the Sunday, with setting up on the previous Thursday. Children are especially welcome and we are proud to have a special section run by Wendy Miller to look after their Meccano interests.
The 2011 show as seen from the dealers’ area on the stage.
Meccano’s latest products are on display during the exhibition.
Each year there are prizes for the top 5 models, voted for by all the exhibitors, and the Issigonis Shield is awarded to the first place.
A raffle with Meccano sets as prizes is also run.
Skegness abounds with cheap but excellent accommodation. The local Tourist Information Centre is opposite the theatre. Call them on

Many Meccano Traders
attend throughout each exhibition dealing in new and second hand Meccano parts a nd associated items. Find us all in the Embassy Centre on the sea front again next year, 6-8 July 2012!
This year once again exhibitors, traders and fans turned up from all over the UK and beyond to support this very special event. Some arrangements and layouts had changed, but not the usual great atmosphere.
Despite all the attractions outside the hall, crowds continued to come in throughout the weekend to see a magnificent collection of models. The stewards did their usual great job in fitting in so many wonderful models
It is never easy to judge between such a variety of skill and ingenuity, but at the end of the weekend, the prize results for the 2011 Issigonis Shield were:
1st: John Ozyer-Key - Kato Mobile Crane
2nd : Ken Senar - Westland Wessex Helicopter
3rd : Bob Seaton - LMS Beyer Garret Loco
4th : Chris Shute - “Mystic Mec”
5th : Dennis Remnant - Dornier Flying Boat
From Geoff Brown, NMMG chairman: “It is for others to say what sort of a show it was. I will simply remark that, despite Mike's retirement from the fray of making it happen, 'The show will go on'. In case you missed the dates, book
Fri - Sun 6-8 July 2012 now.
I myself am more grateful to Marion than words can express for her work, seen and unseen. With the goodwill of our club, she and I (unless there is a rush of volunteers) will be doing our best for you again!
