Meccano Lands at the Space Centre for National Exhibition

The award winning National Space Centre in Leicestershire is set to host one of UK's the largest Meccano exhibitions designed to be an interactive exploration of Meccano through the ages.

The centre has teamed up with Meccano and the International Society of Meccanomen (ISM) to bring together the 'Meccano Madness' event which is set to take place on the 7 and 8 November.

Visitors to the event can expect to be immersed into the world of Meccano with a number of hands-on activities lined up over the weekend including: road testing Meccano's latest remote control cars on the centre's Mars Yard; taking part in a spy robot game using its range of Spykee robots, attempting to construct a creation out of Meccano in the challenge area and the opportunity to help with the build of a giant Meccano rocket.

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the first lunar landings a giant model of Apollo 11's Lunar Landing Module will be on display at the museum. It stands almost two metres and is constructed entirely out of Meccano. There'll also be extensive displays of Meccano models, both large and small, built by Meccano enthusiasts from across the UK and beyond as well as a number of vintage models from the toy company that has been in operation for more than 100 years.

Sue Barratt, Country Manager of Meccano, said: "Meccano is thrilled to be the star attraction at such a prestigious venue. The ambitious exhibition will really highlight how Meccano has evolved from the traditional nuts and bolts construction sets many people remember to much more progressive designs including flexible plastic and metal parts as well as incorporating the latest in technology to bring remote control, voice activation and many other exciting elements to the ranges.

"The ISM has worked hard to bring together the many Meccano Clubs and their members in order to create an impressive display of Meccano models, which demonstrate with a bit of vision there really are no limitations with Meccano."

The exhibition has been careful to stay true to the National Space Centre's roots with many space related models and activities for the visitor to enjoy.

Malika Andress, Head of Marketing at the National Space Centre, said: "It is an honour to work with a global brand like Meccano on an event for fans and families alike. With an amazing history and some even more amazing advances we cannot wait to see not only an exhibition of this engineering marvel, but also the opportunity to mix Meccano with space exploration for some real hands-on fun for children of all ages to enjoy, even the really big ones!"

Museum opening times are 10am to 5pm during the exhibition and entry to the 'Meccano Madness' comes free with the standard admission prices. Visit www.spacecentre.co.uk for more information.
